Traveling 911

At getResQ911, our approach to the Traveling 911 Telecommunicator was inspired by the model of Travel Nursing. Two of my daughters worked as travel nurses and in fact one still does and loves it! Travel nursing is a huge success across the country and if you think about it, has similar aspects to the job as a 911 Telecommunicator. Travel nurses are highly skilled and experienced from practicing at least two years on the job, the entire time living in a foreign environment and town, having to make friends and assimilate into a new culture. They have to learn new technology - in their case Electronic Medical Records systems - which can vary dramatically across thousands of medical centers. And for their willingness to travel, learn, and most importantly dedicate their lives to saving others, they are compensated with a professional salary.

In fact, there are many benefits that we should consider for the Travel 911 Telecommunicator.

Today, we’ll focus on a couple that we may not immediately see as benefits to the career of a 911 Telecommunicator, and in subsequent blogs, we’ll look at several more that are both personal/professional benefits, and persona/ mental health advantages and benefits.

Personal/Professional growth comes in many forms. With Flexibility, travel workers often have the opportunity to work in different locations and gain experience in various environments, which enhances their skills and facilitates career growth. The Telecommunicator will also enjoy Diversity. Working as a travel 911 dispatch worker allows for exposure to different communities, cultures and emergency situations, providing a broader perspective and understanding of varied needs and responses. With every new stop, the Telecommunicator experiences New challenges. Each location and emergency call present unique challenges, allowing travel workers to continually learn and adapt to different situations, which enhance problem-solving skills. Another personal growth benefit is Enhanced skills. Exposure to different emergency protocols, technologies and team dynamics can help improve a travel worker's overall skillset and capabilities in handling varied emergency situations.

I think we can all agree that Travel Nursing has been widely successful in meeting the understaffing challenges of the medical system. getResQ911 is passionate and focused on bringing this same success to 911 Public Safety!  Let’s work together as PSAP Management and Telecommuincators to help solve this crisis in 911.
